With the European Union grant of almost 180,000 Euros, the building of the Science Centre pavilion will be completely reconstructed, while the works include the replacement of the roof covering along with the reconstruction of the roof structure, insulation of the facade, replacement of external and internal carpentry. By renovating the interior, the Science Centre will get the cabinets forphysics, biology and chemistry, multimedia classrooms, an internet cafe, as well as 14 three-bed rooms for the accommodation of children from all over Serbia, who will be able to attend thematically organised programmes for talented children. All the necessary equipment and furniture will be procured and this city science centre will accommodate more than 120 children from Šabac and all other towns in Serbia on the basis of one-day and multi-day programmes for talented children.
"Thanks to the EU donation, the City of Šabac will provide systemic support to talented children so that their talents are recognised from early childhood and developed through adequate programmes. By reconstructing and equipping the facility, creating and implementing education programmes, we will enable generations of gifted children to learn, progress and exchange ideas in a stimulating environment. During the project implementation, we have already plan to organise a math camp as well as a fair on the occasion of the International Day of the Gifted, in order to draw attention to the importance of supporting children and young people, and put the City of Šabac and its Science Centre on the map of institutions that will encourage the ideas and work of young people," said the Mayor of Šabac, Aleksandar Pajić, adding that the city participates in the implementation of the project with significant funds of almost 195,000 Euros. He particularly underlined the importance of cooperation with partners on the project, including the preschool institution "Naše dete", the Centre for Professional Development, the Educational Association "Sunce" and the Association of Šabac Teachers.
The deadline for the completion of works to be carried out by the company "Peštan" from Draževac, selected in the public procurement procedure conducted by the City of Šabac, is 180 days.
The project in Šabac is one of 33 local infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia that the EU supports through the EU PRO Plus programme with more than five million Euros in order to improve the quality of life of people through the renovation and reconstruction of educational, health and social care institutions, sports and cultural facilities, and improvement of communal infrastructure and public administration buildings.
