The EU is financing the reconstruction of the National Library building in Merošina

The works include the completion of the theater hall with 200 seats, the installation of ventilation, along with the external insulation of the walls and the installation of solar panels, which will contribute to greater energy efficiency of the facility, as well as energy savings and cost reduction. The savings will be invested in new cultural programmes available to all residents of the municipality, as a ramp for people with disabilities will also be installed.

"Upon the completion of the works and the introduction of the necessary environmental and safety standards, modern ventilation systems, including new lighting as well as protection against fire, the National Library, with its new look, will provide adequate conditions for work and the organisation of numerous cultural events and manifestations while the conditions for the storage of library material will be also provided", said Saša Jovanović, the Mayor of Merošina Municipality, which participates in the implementation of the project with a significant amount of 118,000 Euros.

He reminded that the first phase of the building's reconstruction was financed by the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government in 2019, and that now, thanks to EU support, the building will be fully functional.

The works are conducted by the Ekspertuniversal d.o.o. Belgrade, as the leading company and KVM Tehnik d.o.o. Smederevo as a member of the group, selected in the public procurement procedure conducted by the municipality of Merošina. The deadline for completing the work is 180 days.

The project in Merošina is among the local infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia that the EU supports through the EU PRO Plus programme with close to six million Euros in order to improve the quality of life of people through the  renovation and reconstruction of educational, health and social care institutions, sports and cultural facilities, and improvement of communal infrastructure and public administration buildings.
