Piloting integrated development approach in Serbia

The European Union (EU), through the EU PRO Plus programme, and in partnership with the Ministry of European Integration, has allocated over 9.6 million Euros to support 18 projects across 30 local self-governments. These funds will enhance regional development by leveraging territorial strategies developed with EU support, addressing common issues, and fostering collaboration between cities, municipalities, and local communities.

The Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) and Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) initiatives, backed by the European Union, the Ministry, and the Programme, provide innovative solutions for regional and urban growth. ITI uses integrated funding for multi-sectoral regional projects, while SUD focuses on sustainable urban improvements to enhance infrastructure, environmental quality, and social inclusion. These approaches ensure efficient resource use to tackle local challenges and benefit communities directly.

After the initiative was formally introduced during a ceremony in June, where EU Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret and Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević awarded certificates to the beneficiaries, the Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Serbia, Nicola Bertolini visited some of these projects on site before commencement of work.
