The EU PRO Plus Programme has today published an award-winning art competition for high school pupils from 99 cities and municipalities[1] in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia on the theme “New Technologies for a Better World!" With the support of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Serbia and the Ministry of European Integration, this competition has been traditionally organised for the fifteenth year in a row with the aim of encouraging creativity among young people and motivating them to be engaged in their communities.
This year's theme, which follows the decision of the European Commission to declare 2025 as the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education, invites high school students to explore and show through their talent and creativity how digital skills and new technologies can improve people's lives and transform the world around us. Whether it is the improvement of industry, environmental protection, more efficient use of resources, development of medicine or education so as to become accessible to everyone and tailored to individual needs, the competition participants have the opportunity to visualise their view of the digital future.
Special attention is paid to responsible behaviour on social networks, i.e. using digital technology in a smart, safe and responsible way, with respect for others and protection from risks.
"Young generations are growing up with social networks and new technologies, and with this art competition EU PRO Plus invites them to show through their works how these tools can contribute to creating a better, more advanced and more connected world for all of us," said Olivera Kostić, EU PRO Plus Programme Manager. She added that this is an excellent opportunity for students and their teachers to think together how smart technology can improve learning, but also about socially engaged initiatives that use new technologies to improve their living environment.
The high school pupils, as well as the general public, will be able to vote online, through the EU PRO Plus programme website, and thus choose 12 works from a narrow selection of the 20 best works, previously selected by the internal jury. Online voting opens after the contest closes and lasts for five days.
The audience's voice will be the fifth member of the jury who will choose the 12 best works that will be on the pages of the EU PRO Plus programme Calendar for 2025, while their authors will be awarded with laptop and tablet computers and mobile phones. Through the competition, we also invite schools to organise internal school competitions, and the school that proves to be the best in engagement and organisation will receive a laptop and a projector as a prize.
The competition is open until 13 November 2024, and all information and proposals are available on the Programme website EU PRO Plus 2025 Calendar Art Competition.
