Kindergarten "Đurđevak" in Zaječar will soon have a new look with the support of the EU

With the support of the European Union (EU) through the EU PRO Plus programme, which is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, the kindergarten "Đurđevak" in Zaječar will be renovated in order to improve the conditions for the stay of around 160 children of preschool age.

The works worth more than 336,000 Euros, of which EU grant amount to almost 180,000 Euros, and the participation of the City of Zaječar is 157,000 Euros, include the complete replacement of worn roof covering and carpentry, covering of existing roof terraces and thermal insulation of the facade, all with the aim of improving the energy efficiency of the building. IT equipment will also be purchased to support the implementation of the "Digital Kindergarten" programme.

"With the implementation of this project, Zaječar youngest citizens will get significantly better conditions for stay, education and upbringing, while the employees will have better working conditions," said the Mayor of Zaječar, Boško Ničić.

"Our preschool institution "Đulići" celebrates its 54th birthday this year, but in addition to tradition, we follow European standards in education and introduce digitization in our work. Therefore,  the new IT equipment will help us to implement the activities within the "Digital Đulići" Programme  as now will have a laptop computer in each of the eight classrooms", said Tanja Jovanović, director of the institution.

Works performed by the company A.D. "Crna Trava" from Leskovac, selected in the public procurement procedure conducted by the City of Zaječar, will last 90 days.

The project in Zaječar is among the  local infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia that the EU supports through the EU PRO Plus programme with more than five million Euros in order to improve the quality of life of people through the  renovation and reconstruction of educational, health and social care institutions, sports and cultural facilities, and improvement of communal infrastructure and public administration buildings.
