EU for better water supply and revitalisation of Mataruška Banja

With the support of the European Union (EU), Mataruška Banja has made a significant step in returning to its deserved place on the tourist map of Serbia. As part of the revitalisation project, which was financed with 360,000 Euros through the EU PRO Plus program in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, the water supply network was reconstructed in a length of over five kilometres. This project ensured a stable water supply for hotel and private accommodation, a sports, gerontological and rehabilitation centres, as well as for the residents of Mataruška Banja. In addition, the park in Mataruška Banja now has a new children's playground, 80 new benches and 40 waste bins.

"In partnership with the European Union, we have started an important task - the return of the old splendour of Mataruška Banja. The spa was neglected for a long time, and it takes time to restore everything. Therefore, the  European Union support, along with the domestic investments, is a key incentive for the revitalisation of this natural health resort. With this project, we are opening the door for new investments in tourism and further economic development, and most importantly, we are creating new jobs," said the mayor of Kraljevo, Predrag Terzić. The City of Kraljevo contributed almost 68,000 Euros to the implementation of this project.

The project in Kraljevo is one of 20 economic infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia that the EU supports through the EU PRO Plus Programme with more than five million Euros. The projects aim to improve local competitiveness by improving business conditions and attracting new investments. The works include the construction or reconstruction and infrastructural equipping of industrial zones, tourist zones, as well as the preparation of technical documentation for the purpose of developing economic infrastructure.
