The strategy for the development of the urban area of ​​the city of Smederevo deals with the key cultural and industrial center positioned on the three most important traffic corridors in Serbia. Significant cultural heritage is the medieval fortress, while the industrial heritage is represented by the old steelworks (SARTID 1913) and the accompanying metallurgical complex. With the construction of a new steel plant (Metallurgical Plant Smederevo – MKS) in the 1960s, Smederevo became an industrial center of national importance.
